A Surprise Food Distribution!
Tuesday, November 3, 2020
This past week we were blessed with the opportunity to lead another food distribution, handing out food boxes send from the USDA's food distribution program! This project was actually a bit unexpected, as Ellie and Parker went to help do what they thought was a routine "restocking" of food shelves at the "Upper Des Moines" food bank in LeMars, and a semi-trailer dropped off the same number of boxes that arrived in LeMars for our first food distribution project (over 1,000 boxes!) and then left!
A couple of other food bank offices took trailers of food to their locations, but over 500 food boxes still were sitting in Primghar, needing to be distributed! Rob sprung into action immediately, making some calls to some of our friends and neighboring communities, since Sheldon had just received a "drop-off" the week before. After getting in touch with some people in Sioux City who were doing a distribution later that day, 150 boxes of food and gallons of milk were sent to assist with their efforts. Rob then was able to contact "RadioWorks" in Worthington, along with Pastor Wes Kyoo Kouba from Lakeside Baptist Church in Worthington, to spread news that we would be bringing over 350 boxes of food to Worthington, would hand them out to whoever needed them, and would also be needing some volunteers! With Dave Serrano helping to lead volunteers, Gary Hibma driving the food truck, and our friends in Worthington spreading the news, we were able to distribute over 350 boxes of food and gallons of milk in about 1 hour! We are so blessed to know so many people with giving hearts, and to be able to impact neighboring communities that mean so much to us!
