Rob Roozeboom

Like many small-town boys growing up in the Midwest, Rob Roozeboom’s desire was to be a farmer and an athlete. Muscular Dystrophy cut short both those dreams while he was still in his teens.

But that was the beginning of Rob’s story, not the end.

Today, Rob is a man on a mission “to take what I’ve been dealt with and use it to affect the lives of others.” He’s the founder and president of RISE Ministries, Inc., an organization that teaches teens and adults how to overcome adversity in their lives.

Rob travels the country giving motivational speeches to a variety of audiences. In 2001 and 2002, he was featured nationally on the Jerry Lewis MDA telethon, along with his wife, Sharla. Rob speaks from the heart and from experience.

He’s journeyed through loneliness, depression, substance abuse, rebellion, and suicidal despair; and has come out the other side with something important to say.

In 2023, Rob fulfilled an 18 year goal by writing his first book, Broken Still Chosen. The book weaves Rob's inspiring story with biblical teaching and offers hope to anyone feeling broken or unloved, unseen, or forgotten.

Rob’s engaging personality and natural eloquence make it easy for others to learn what it’s like to live with a neuromuscular disease, and how to dream new dreams. You’ll be inspired in new ways after hearing Rob’s story.

Rob, Sharla, and their son, Jager, and daughters, Riley and Aidan, live in Sheldon Iowa, where Rob enthusiastically helps his father-in-law harvest crops each fall.
